MIDI Generator

Web interface for MIDI songs generation based on a user defined structure. The HTML standalone version is serverless and runs on any browser.

How to open

1. Download the file.

2. Double click or drag it on a browser window (Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari).

No need to install anything.

Step by step guide

1. Filename and tempo

   - Filename: name of the .mid file (extension appends later).

   - BPM: from 10 to 290.

   - Silence probability: from 0 to 1. Where 0 is no silence; and 1 is all silence.

2. Allowed notes: click on the piano keys (C3 to B5) to activate or take them out. Active keys appear highlighted. At least 3 are needed.

3. Registers: the two sliders mark where the low and medium registers ends. The notes of each register are shown below.

4. Note durations: each type (Normal, Fast, Slow) randomly choose from the checked options. It must be at least one option checked for each type that you use in the structure.

5. Song structure: each row is a 4-beat measure with 3 fields:

   - Pattern (0 to 99): number that identifies a rhythm. Rows with the same pattern and duration repeat themselves.

   - Duration: Normal, Fast or Slow.

   - Register: Low, Medium or High, decide which notes to use from the scale.

   Use Add Row to add a new row and x to remove them.

6. Click Generate to generate a different song each time.

7. Click Play to listen a preview and Stop to stop it.

8. Click Download .mid to save the file.

How to build the song

- Each row last exactly 4 Quarter notes. If a note duration doesn't fit in a beat, that part is converted into silence.

- Rows with the same pattern and same duration repeat the same notes. This is to make repetitions or choruses.

- Rows with the same pattern and different duration have different notes.

- (Experimental) The duration Fast generate sequences that goes up and down in the scale. The others durations choose the notes randomly.

- The velocity of each note varies randomly between 80 and 100.

Important notes

- The preview uses a simple sound from the browser.

- To play the .mid you can use a player or MIDI editor (like LMMS)

Technical details

- Resolution: 480 ticks per Quarter note, MIDI format type 1 with 2 tracks (tempo and melody) and channel 0.

Note on AI use

The orginal generator was hand made by me in python, this web port was made using AI with the purpose to have a more user friendly interface.
